Group A
Dimrill - Romanista 1-0
Tense game, after a 3-3 Dimrill scored a last minute winner against Romanista's partyblacklist
NotMeOhNo 0 - 1 Jonarob
Despite having less of the ball and fewer attempts on goal, a 44 minute goal by Spew clinched it for Zombie United against Professionals. Good game matey (J)
The Zombie hoards were certainly more animated than secret grave yard filming suggested. Tiny lag and the bewildering refusal from my so called strikers to actually bloody shoot instead of feebly pass towards goal..bloody voodoo
Really weird goal. I thought it was an own goal as defender and striker clashed 25 yards from goal only for an arching lob of a shot to find itself snugly spinning in the corner of the net. (N)
Dimrill's Zombies 1 - Morte's Dinners 0
The majority of the 1st half was moderately one sided towards The Rill, before Chug was cruelly hacked down at the edge of the box and the ball went out to touch for a throw-in. Chug proved too injured to continue, but his services were not needed as Tear banged the ball home from the throw.
Second half proved a stalemate with Morte stepping up the offence and applying good pressure, but ultimately proved FRUITLESS. And rest of dinnerless too.
Loq 0-Romanista 2
Well, my Emotion Overkill just lost 2-0 to romanista's Zombie United. I was pretty comprehensively outplayed, and he beat me 5-0 in a practise match before that too...it's the wooden spoon for me, I think.
Much more practise needed, but I simply don't have the time. Weep
Romanista-Jonarob 2-2
Romanista went 1-0 up in a fiery first few minutes with shots all over the place. Then, I equalized and managed to bag another. Then Romanista began to talk over the microphone, but I didn't have mine in so I couldn't hear him properly. At this point, my girlfriend who had been taking an interest in the game decided it'd be a good idea to get up and stand in front of my TV in an attempt to grab my headset from behind it to listen in. Then Romanista scored his second. Then full time.
Yes, that's right. I was robbed!
In all seriousness, though. His second was a long time coming and I was more than happy with a draw - especially seeing as he tanked me 3-0 yesterday in a friendly. Also, my girlfriend was very apologetic so I let her off.
Morte (Cake Team) 2 v 3 Paul Twist (Zombie Utd)
Very, very close one - the Zombies were 2-0 up, with the cakes scoring 1 before half time then another in the second half. A draw was looking likely until the Zombies clinched a 90 minute winner. The Cake Team very nearly equalised mere seconds later, but it wasn't to be.
Jonarob (Professionals) 0 - 4 (Zombie United) Paul Twist
A shock victory for Twist's Zombies, thanks in no small part to one of Jonarob's Professionals receiving a red card early on.
Group B
Curiousity (Zombie United) 2 - 1 GazChap (Forumites)
A friendly match beforehand to warm us up was largely uneventful, ending in a goal-less draw. Curiousity lost a midfielder to a very harsh decision by the referee, a red card ending any hopes he had of contributing any more to the game. A few good chances were had by both teams, Curiousity's keeper seemingly being made of The Right Stuff™.
Moving on to the match proper, GazChap's number 7 midfielder was injured early in the first half after a nasty tackle. The decision was made to keep him on the field, for now at least.
GazChap took the lead after 29 minutes with a nice swerve-shot from star striker Genethebean, taken from just outside the 18-yard box.
After Curiousity kicked off again, Genethebean was immediately sent off after a vicious tackle on the half-way line, leaving GazChap's attack lacking somewhat. The left-winger was hastily moved into a forward position to provide support.
Just before half-time, Curiousity was awarded a corner. With a perfect cross into the box, it looked nasty for GazChap. Even more so when his defender brutally took down one of the opposing attackers, granting a penalty to Curiousity, who converted it with style to equalise just before the break.
Going into the second half, things were mainly stress-free for both sides until the 50th minute when a fantastic shot straight up into the top-left corner of GazChap's net sent Curiousity hurtling into the lead.
The losing side went on to fight tooth and nail to gain the equaliser, but all the effort was for nought. A well-deserved win for Curiousity, and a stark reminder for GazChap that his skills with teams out of the top-flight need reassessment.
Curiosity recorded a shock 2-1 win over GazChap today.
After going 0-1 up on 29 minutes, GazChap's Forumites were undone by a foul straight from the kick off that saw the goal scorer sent off.
The Forumites were still looking strong when Curiosity's Zombie United forced a corner, and somehow in the scrum of players got a penalty which they converted in first half stoppage time. 1-1.
The second half was a delicately balanced affair until a misplaced slide tackle in the midfield by a member of the Forumites sent the ball heading towards their own box, where the Zombie striker cooly put the ball into the net for the 2-1 lead.
Despite some genuinely laughable control from the Zombie United team in trying to run the ball into corners, the Zombie Keeper excelled in the second half and earned his team their first win of the season (and my first against a human).
Bluce_Ree 2 - 1 CornerUnitSofa
Bluce's determined Forumites narrowly saw off CUS's sexy Zombies.
The game started badly for the undead horde, with a first minute own goal the officials described as 'retarded'. The forumites scored a sympathy own goal a minute later, and after that it was neck-and-neck for the rest of the game. Up until the 86th minute, when a sneaky walk-in by the formutes gave them a well-deserved victory.
Bluce Ree 2-Ramsea 1.
doesnt tell the whole story.
we had an epic 2-2 first and my first goal was a Phil Babb og with Sir Les scoring the last minute winner.
lag was fucking horrible though.
Dudley's Forumites 2 - CUS' Zombie United 0
Goal in each half from Clarke, mid 2nd half sending off for CUS' number 8.
I'm as shocked as you.
CUS incidentally sounds like death, so if anyone wants any of his stuff in the will, be nice to him now.
Dudley's Zombie United 2 - Rodafowa's Forumites 0
A goal towards the end of each half, both thanks to calamitous defending errors by Roda's Spurs channelling keeper sealed victory in an otherwise superbly enjoyable end to end thriller.
Roda seems like a splendid chap too, which is excellent
Sensible FC (Curiosity) and Zombie United (Burai) fought out a spectacular 3-3 draw in front of a excited Zombie Stadium.
The early going was made by Sensible FC who carved out some opportunities and finally converted when hitting the post and walking in the rebound. The Zombies though looked dangerous on the break and it was no surprise when their striker cooly slotted home right on the stroke of halftime to make it 1-1.
The second half started well for Sensible FC as they grew in stature and started to dominate. A lovely passing move gave them a 2-1 advantage and a carbon copy of the opening goal made it 3-1, again using the post to good effect.
Zombie United were galvanised by this and suddenly every attack looked like it would bring a goal. After 72 minutes the Zombie Striker hit his team's second past a foolish-looking Sensible keeper, and then on 87 minutes the comeback was complete, the late equaliser earning the Zombies a share of the points. They even had a chance to steal all three as time ticked down, but Sensible managed to repel the invaders.
All in all, Sensible managed to throw away a long period of dominance with poor finishing. Despite 61% possession and 18 shots to 6, they didn't make it count (especially when the Zombie keeper very kindly kept passing the ball back to my inept strikers).
A very good game and a fair result.
Now I just need to learn how to shoot!
myoptika (Zombie Utd) 2 - 0 (Forumites) Rodafowa
Despite the most hideous lag possible (5 seconds paused waiting for the ball that was stuck in mid-air), myoptika managed to scrape a win against the resilient Rodders.
The first goal was walked in after a save from the keeper, and
Bluce_Ree (Zombie United) 1-1 (Forumites) myoptika.
A fair result for both sides after an action packed match with chances for both sides.
Bluce's Zombie Hoardes opened the scoring after six minutes after myoptika's Forumites fell asleep at the back, Spew walking the ball home.
The Forumites hit back after approx 35 mins when the ball was squared across for Genethebean to hammer home from eight yards.
Then, just before half-time, calamity struck: Forumites' goalscorer Genethebean was given a straight red for a tackle from behind. Your reporter feels it was harsh, but the referee was having none of the protests, waving the surrounding players back to their own half for the restart.
However, this setback didn't affect the Forumites' push for victory. The second half was almost a complete one-sided affair; at one point myoptika's team strung pass after pass together, bewildering the brain-munchers before the keeper pushed past the post. Chances came and went, but the Forumites just couldn't put the ball in the net for a second time.
Conceding a corner in the last minute, Bluce felt his chances of winning a hard-earnt point dissipate, but the corner was missed by everyone and was final
re-match warm-up friendly saw a veritable smorgasbord of goalmouth action (fnarr fnarr) and a 90th minute winner for myoptika's Forumites.
On starting the "main event", it was determined that GazChap's original team choice (Professionals) were in fact significantly better than the Forumites, despite the 3-2 loss. GazChap selected an old favourite, Zombie United. After losing to their necrotic might in the first match against Curiousity, he was curious himself as to just how good they were.
MyOptika-Gazchap 0-2
The first half was full of reasonable chances for both teams, the ball flitting from one penalty box to the other all the way through. However, it was a sneaky goal by Zombie United's Chud in the 40th minute that started the scoring. A shot that pelted the goalkeeper, only for him to drop the ball at Chud's feet allowing him to walk calmly over the goal-line.
After the break, the two teams came back on to the field invigorated and refreshed (well, as invigorated as 11 undead monsters and a bunch of forum-dwelling nerds can be). Action continued down in GazChap's penalty area, and in the 55th minute, after two shocking displays of brutality that were both awarded with a yellow card, the Forumites' star striker Clarke was dismissed from the field. As he scored two goals in the pre-match friendly, this eased the pressure on GazChap.
However, myoptika didn't give up. A series of well executed manoeuvres saw possibly the greatest injustice ever. After a fantastic corner kick, myoptika's last striker, Genethebean, thwacked the ball at the net. It bounced off the keeper only to rest calmly on the goal-line by the post. A frantic struggle for control ensued, but GazChap's defenders saved the day and punted a long ball out for a counter-attack that ultimately ended myoptika's chances of pulling the game back, with Spew putting the undead unstoppables two-nil up.
All in all, a game well played by both teams with no discernable lag to speak of (although things got a bit choppy towards the end of the pre-match warmup).
Cadmium Lemon (Cog Eleven) 2 v 1 Burai (Sensible FC)
Finally! The match everyone had been waiting for. Especially Myoptikakakakakakaka. Ka.
A practice match win beforehand was a great confidence booster for yours truly against the forum's Mr Sensi. Alas, truer words may not have ever been uttered than Cad's "It takes a bit of time for me to warm up". Hitting home twice early on to lead 2-0 before the break, Cog Eleven were running rampant. But a comeback goal midway through the second half after I ran in a deflection off the goalkeeper got Sensible FC back in the game.
A goalkeeping blunder of SFC's own saw my keeper running around in circles after Cad's striker, Benny Hill style, but he just couldn't make the most of an unguarded net and my defenders got it away nicely and we broke away. Sadly his keeper showed safe hands as we hit 87 minutes for what would be my last attack of the match and it was only a matter of seconds before the final whistle came.
